The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Garrard County Justice Center was held on Thursday, September 24, 2009, in Lancaster, KY.   A large crowd including city, county, and state officials were on hand to help celebrate the start of this new facility.

Due to rain, the main ceremony was held inside the current courthouse, with standing room only.  After the speeches were over there was a small break in the weather, and everyone moved back outside for the official groundbreaking.  Shovels and hardhats were handed out and participants tossed the first ceremonial shovels full of dirt to mark the start of construction.

The new Garrard County Justice Center will house the county's District, Circuit, Family and Drug Courts.  The Offices of the Property Valuation Administrator, County Clerk, and Judge-Executive will remain in the current courthouse.  The project is expected to be completed in the winter of 2010 and cost $11.9 million.

Branscum-Pepper Construction, LLC  is the Construction Manager for this project and the architect for the project is Brandstetter Carroll.  The project manager is Jeff Cook and Bill Bridges is the Project Superintendent.
