On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, Boyle County Board of Education, staff, students and community leaders gathered along Cunningham Drive to break ceremonial ground on the new Boyle County Middle School.  The occasion marked the beginning of the district's first building project since 1977.

Jennifer Newby, Chairperson of the Board of Education, expressed her gratitude to attendees noting, "A strong school district is built on community partners who are actively engaged in providing transformative opportunities for our students."  Newby continued, "With your ongoing support, Boyle County Schools will continue to foster a culture of excellence that maximizes every child's potential."

The two-story, 122,000 square-foot middle school will feature open and flexible instructional spaces for 900 students; a collaborative learning media center; a 500-seat cultural and performing arts theater; a 900-seat gymnasium; a state-of-the-art kitchen and a robust network infrastructure to support technology in the classroom.

"Our vision is to create spaces for future learning, designed around collaborative and personalized learning," said Superintendent Mike LaFavers.  "We are a student-centered school district and this middle school will give us flexible spaces to leverage new instructional strategies, like team-teaching and inquiry-based learning, that engage kids right where they are."

Branscum - W. Rogers was selected to manage the $33.0 million construction project while the architect firm of Clotfelter-Samokar led the design process. 

Construction is scheduled to begin the first week of February, with the new middle school opening in August of 2019.
